About the Women Cycling Project
Purpose: Stimulate collaboration among professionals to create a hospitable transportation environment that encourages more women to bicycle more places more often – alone, together and with their children.
History: Founded in 2010 by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, the project began with an initial “snapshot in time” survey to assess needs and concerns and start a conversation.
Current Activities: Annual webinar in March capitalizes on the topic of Women’s History Month to engage more perspectives in the conversation about women cycling. Primer on how to host a local Women Cycling Summit/Forum.
Future Activities: Increased cross-collaboration among planners, engineers, landscape architects, public health professionals, placemakers, law enforcement and economic development experts.
